Peace activists enacted this new emotional culture by publicly displaying and performing fear. Abstract

This chapter analyzes the culmination of the history of fear in postwar West Germany during the 1980s. A culture of emotional expressiveness now merged with two new external threats: environmental disaster and a nuclear war.
