Abstract

Several new results are presented for optimum (diversity) combining with imperfect channel estimates (OC-ICE). A thresholding effect is demonstrated for the Rician fading channel; it is shown that the OC-ICE performance is near optimal (i.e., similar to that for the maximum ratio combiner (MRC)) below a (Rician K factor dependent) threshold irrespective of the pilot channel received SNR.
