Abstract

Theanalysisofasampleofcharacteristiccommercialshopsignsintoday’sLimassol, Cyprus,assertstheiranchoragefunctionassyncretic/polysemiotictextsrelyingupon the synergy of semiotic systems, in their commercial and broader informational function. The study of intersemiosis, i.e. of the translation between pictorial and linguisticsemioticsystemsandtheirhierarchy,canprovidethebasisforanin-depth semioticstudyofthesocio-economicandhistorical-aestheticlandscapeofthecity.
