Abstract
Adoption of Electric Vehicles (EV) is in a nascent stage in India, mainly due to vehicle performance barriers, charging infrastructure, and total cost of ownership. However, the adoption of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) is slowly picking up in India and is likely to grow with stringent Government regulations and Green Mobility initiatives. This review paper analyses the global market potential for EVs in the near & far term and studies the Indian Electric mobility space. This paper also discusses India's strengths, preparedness towards making the technology leap, key factors influencing early adoption, critical benefits for the consumer, and the Government policy framework required. Finally, the paper summarizes the potential routes to improve EV purchase and mitigate challenges like high battery cost, Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), and limited charging infrastructure.
