Abstract
This paper presents a simple planar antenna with a compact radiator for 5GHz wireless local area network applications. The antenna consists of a circular radiating element to generate the resonant mode for 5GHz frequency operation. The antenna offers a wider bandwidth covering all bands of frequencies of wireless local area networks when printed on a FR4-epoxy substrate with dielectric constant (εr) of 4.4 and thickness 1.6mm with an overall dimension of 23mm×26.1mm. This antenna is designed to generate a frequency band at around 5GHz to cover the all bands of WLAN system using IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, WiMAX and HiperLAN/2. Parametric study on the key dimensions is investigated by computer simulation using HFSS (High Frequency Structural Simulator).
