Abstract
With the evolution of 3/sup rd/ generation mobile communications standardization, the software radio concept has the potential to offer a pragmatic solution - a software implementation that allows the mobile terminal to adapt dynamically to its radio environment. The mapping of SDL and CORBA mechanisms is introduced, in order to provide a generic platform for the implementation of future mobile services, supporting standardized interfaces and manufacturer platform independent object and service functionality description. For the functional entity diagram model, it is proposed that the functional entities be designed as objects, the functional entities group as 'open' object oriented SDL platforms, and the interfaces between them as CORBA IDLs, communicating via the ORB in a generic implementation and location independent way. The functional entity groups are proposed to be modeled as SDL block types, while the functional entities and sub-entities as SDL process and service types. The objects interact with each other like client or server objects requesting or receiving services from other objects. Every object has a CORBA IDL interface, which allows every component to be distributed in an optimum way by providing a standardized infrastructure, ensuring interoperability, flexibility, reusability, transparency and management capabilities.
