A new subgenus and three new cavernicolous species of the genus Pterostichus from China (Coleoptera: Carabidae: Pterostichini)

Abstract

Summary Three new cave-adapted species of the genus Pterostichus Bonelli, 1810 are described. Qianius n. subgen. is established to place two new species from Guizhou, southwestern China: Pterostichus (Qianius) lii n. sp. (cave Hei Dong in Zunyi) and P. (Q.) xuedytes n. sp. (cave Niupi Dong in Bijie). P. (Licentius) cuii n. sp. is reported from two caves, Tangren Dong and Huangyuan Dong in Beijing, close to P. (L.) mirabilis Jedlička, 1939, probably the first described Chinese pterostichine with cave-adapted morphological features. A key to subgenera and species of cavernicolous Pterostichus in China is provided.
