Abstract

Roller compacted concrete (RCC) production in the laboratory using a vibrating hammer is one of the methods used in research studies. In this method, it is thought that the compaction time will change the strength properties of the RCC samples. For this reason, it is aimed to determine the ideal compaction time in terms of strength by producing RCC samples with different compaction times. In the experimental study, RCC samples with the same mixture design were compacted with a vibrating hammer for 5, 10, 15 and 20 seconds at different times. Compactibility percentage, unit weight, water absorption, ultrasonic pulse velocity and 28-day concrete compressive strength tests were carried out on the produced roller compacted concrete samples. In the study, it was determined that the void ratio in the roller compacted concrete samples decreased with the increase of the compaction time. The highest strength value was obtained from the RCC sample, which was compressed for 15 seconds. It has been emphasized that the design of the roller compacted concrete mix and especially its consistency will affect the ideal compaction time in terms of strength.
