Abstract
Wireless sensor networks can now be utilized to solve the real world problems and irrigation is one of them. It is always desired to improve the irrigation delivery efficiency with dynamic regulation of canals. This paper discusses the possibility of using WSN in working out irrigation demand and all the aspects of its implementation. The various aspects like mote sensor assembly, the global naming conventions, installation details, layout of sensors at subchak level are discussed with special reference to cluster based layout. Localization, data routing techniques and data aggregation is proposed for working out the water demand and operational parameters to regulate the canals. The bottlenecks to implement the proposed strategy is also discussed in the paper.
