Metodologia: Estudo transversal, retrospectivo, realizado entre janeiro e dezembro de 2019. Participaram idosos com idade ≥ 60 anos. Considerou-se baixo peso para Índice de Massa Muscular (IMC) <23kg/m2. O ponto de corte utilizado para Circun ferência da Panturrilha (CP) foi ≤34cm para homens e ≤33cm para mulheres para predizer depleção muscular. Quanto a classificação de risco, utilizaram-se os resultados da triagem nutricional Nutri tional Risk Screening (NRS-2002). As variáveis foram analisadas através de porcentagens e médias com desvio-padrão. Resultados: Foram analisados ABSTRACT: Introduction: Aging predisposes to malnutrition, since it causes a decline in phys-iological function, loss of lean mass, sensory changes, a higher frequency of hospitalizations and risk of infections and pressure injuries. Nutritional screening contributes in a practical and low-cost manner to identify patients at nutritional risk, allowing for early nutritional intervention. Objectives: to investigate the prevalence of malnutrition and nutritional risk in elderly people admitted to a uni-versity hospital of medium complexity. Methodology: Cross-sectional, retrospective study, carried out between January and December 2019. Participants were elderly aged ≥ 60 years. Low weight was considered for Muscle Mass Index (BMI) <23kg / m2. The cutoff point used for Calf Circumference (CP) was ≤34cm for men and ≤33cm for women to predict muscle depletion. As for the risk classifi -cation, the results of the Nutritional Risk Screening nutritional screening (NRS-2002) were used. The variables were analyzed using percentages and means with standard deviation. Results: Data from 85 patients with a mean age of 71 ± 7 years were analyzed, of which 51.7% were men. Malnutrition by BMI was verified in 45.9% of patients and nutritional risk in 70.5% according to NRS 2002. Of the non-malnourished elderly, 43.4% showed depletion of muscle mass. According to NRS 2002, 65% of patients at nutritional risk already had muscle depletion. Conclusion: The prevalences found show the need for greater attention to the nutritional status of hospitalized elderly.
