Integrating Chinese Culture in College English Course

Abstract

Culture and language are indispensable, and for a Chinese college student who learns English, a foreign language learner has to learn the language in both Chinese culture and English culture. The target culture would help the learners to improve their language skills by deepening their understanding of its history, art, and geography. The mother culture would help the students strengthen their identity, telling them who they are. Based on the authors' review of the literatures on culture teaching both home and abroad and their 5-year English teaching practice, this paper introduces the strategies of integrating Chinese culture into college English teaching in the authors' college and proves that it is advisable to integrate Chinese culture in English learning.
