Pakistan's Legislative Progress on FATF Stipulations in 2020

Abstract

Since being put on the Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) “grey list” in 2018, Pakistan has made great strides in reforming its financial architecture through legislation. The aim of this paper is to consider the new and amended legislative acts that have been passed in 2020 to conform with the FATF’s stipulations. The findings of the paper highlight a significant legislative effort, but conclude that lawmaking is only the first step - it is also the enforcement of these laws that will ultimately bring meaningful reform.
