PM employs polarization domain to represent information, which is different from the conventional dual polarization spatial multiplexing (SM) or space time block coding (STBC) schemes in MSB. At any transmission instant, only one polarized antenna is activated, which avoids cross polarization interference and mitigates the possibility of inter-beam interference. A fair system performance evaluation is taken between PM and SM schemes for both single-satellite and dual-satellite cases with practical MIMO land mobile satellite (LMS) channel models.
