Abstract
As a "national language" created by netizens collectively, Internet buzzwords are a symbolic epitome of social changes, an essential part of current Internet media culture, and an essential window for observing the dynamics of public thoughts, emotions and understanding changes in public social opinion. When onlookers and expression have become the way for the masses to live on the Internet, complex textual expressions have been discarded and replaced by highly condensed expressions. Such word-making methods are consistent with the requirements of language economics. Internet buzzwords are the product of netizens’ language recreation. The essence of Internet buzzwords is a kind of public discourse that appears in the form of entertainment. It expresses netizens’ concern about reality, builds up the social identity and discourse consensus of the netizens, and measures the discourse between official public opinion and private-public opinion. The governance of Internet buzzwords is a new subject of Internet new media governance.
