Abstract

This chapter details the excruciatingly long roll out of The Outlaw into movie theaters, including the 1943 premiere in San Francisco and the gradual rollout between 1946-1950. Also detailed is Jane’s reaction to the publicity campaign around the release, along with the Production Code Administration’s objections to the film and the publicity. Finally, the film itself and audience reaction is analyzed.
