Abstract
Unlimited driving distance of electric vehicles (EVs) is expected to be achieved by dynamic wireless power transfer (DWPT) system. However, one of the major problems in DWPT system is to locate the position of the vehicle in order to control the power transmission timing. Several researchers have developed many vehicle detection methods. This paper presents sensorless vehicle detection system by using only the change of mutual inductance of the DWPT system. Normally, mutual inductance model is difficult to be described as a function. Estimation function of mutual inductance is presented in this paper. Moreover, this proposed method improves the robustness of the detection system to vehicle misalignment and safety issues due to the overcurrent. The feasibility of this sensorless vehicle position detection method is validated by simulation bench driving test.
