Abstract
The problem of Optimal reactive Power Dispatch (ORPD) is a non-linear and complex optimization problem having non-linear functions with many non-linear as well as discontinuous constraints. The solution of the problem helps in minimizing the active power losses, reduction of voltage deviation, improvement of the voltage stability margin, and thus, helps in achieving an operation of the system that is more secure and economic. In this paper, the optimization problem is considered as a single objective optimization problem with the objective to minimize the active power losses in the transmission lines and simultaneously satisfying all the given constraints. The proposed algorithm used is a modified version of JAYA algorithm called the modified JAYA (MJAYA) algorithm for optimizing the objective function. The simulation results of the MJAYA algorithm proved that it is superior compared to the other existing algorithms in terms of robustness, stability and convergence rate when tested on the IEEE 14 bus, IEEE 30 bus and IEEE 39 New England bus test systems.
