A fully integrated GSM/DCS/PCS Rx VCO with fast switching auto-band selection

Abstract

A fully integrated VCO suited for GSM/DCS/PCS tri-band direct conversion receiver is designed and fabricated in 0.5 pn IBM Si- BiCMOS technology. The VCO has achieved a phase noise of -143 dBclHz at 3MHz offset with a frequency of 3.4GHz and more than 600MHz bandwidth. The design of the fast switching auto-band selection circuit is also discussed. The total current for VCO is 10 mA with a 2.8V supply.
