Abstract
In a spread spectrum communication system the basic problem which has to be solved is the synchronization of the receiver pseudorandom sequence with the same sequence contained in the input signal. In this paper a novel scheme for coarse acquisition of the frequency hopping signal, using its real time Fourier transform at the receiver front end, is presented and analyzed. In the system, an additional logic is used to select the correct frequency estimate so that the average acquisition time is further decreased. The same logic is used to select the search/lock strategy so that the average acquisition time could be minimized. It was shown that considerable improvement of the system performance can be obtained by using this technique compared with the standard serial sinchronization schemes.
