Obsolescence of literature in library and information science research

Abstract

The present study is an attempt to examine research productivity in library and information science literature based in 81 Ph.D. Theses submitted to various universities of Andhra Pradesh. This study focuses on the obsolescence of literature by the age of cited (10,788 book and journals) documents indicates the useful life of documents. The investigations of such kinds of studies are found to be helpful and useful to manage the information resources and services in special libraries and information centres. The present study made an attempt to determine the half-life and certains other obsolescence factors which will help the librarians in the need base collection.
