Calculation of Optimal Switching Angles for a Multilevel Inverter through the Taguchi Design Approach

Abstract

The use of the genetic algorithm to obtain the appropriate switching sequence of a multilevel inverter has been increasing during the last years; this algorithm has been implemented through a Matlab solver. However, the choosing of the solver parameters have been by means of trial-and-error or by the user experience. In order to maximize the Matlab genetic algorithm performance, the present work proposes the use of Taguchi design approach to determine the optimal switching sequence of a five-level multilevel inverter to decrease the THD in the output voltage.
