Abstract

Due to increase in the power demand, there is huge pressure on the generation, transmission and distribution. This leads to failure of the power system components, including poor efficiency and unstable operation of the power systems. The introduction of fast operating power electronics devices can address 20-30% of these problems for healthy operation of the power systems. In this paper, contingency based UPFC placement is carried out using MiPower software. The obtained results compared with the analytical method. The chosen method gives the best solution for UPFC placement and it can be used for placement of any FACTS devices.
