A review of the genus Catestiasula Giglio-Tos, 1915 (Mantodea: Hymenopodidae)

Abstract

Summary The genus Catestiasula Giglio-Tos, 1915, with three species, is distributed in SE Asia. After examining numerous specimens of Catestiasula, we redefine C. seminigra (Zhang) and try to clarify the identification characteristics of different species. Ootheca and nymph morphology of Catestiasula is recorded for the first time. A new species, Catestiasula medogensis n. sp., is described from the rainforests of the southern slopes of the Himalayas. A key to species of Catestiasula, life history, necessary illustrations and life images of Catestiasula species are presented. The distribution of the genus Catestiasula is discussed and mapped.
