Abstract
Electrical busways are replacing cables due to their ease of installation and the advantage of not having to pull extra lines for extra power needs. Elbows are used in busways to change the direction of straight run and has the disadvantage of requiring two junction blocks to integrate it to the system. A special elbow joint has been designed that removes the usage of two more junction blocks as used. The developed model has been simulated to test its electrical characteristics. The voltage drop, temperature rise calculations and thermal simulations done for the new elbow gave very good results with sufficient margin of safety. The new elbow joint will help in reducing the overall cost of the busway with superior electrical and thermal properties compared to the existing solution.
