Abstract

We propose an integrated transmitter for deep space communications consisting of an indium phosphide photonic integrated circuit (PIC) frontend followed by an average-power-limited amplifier. The frontend PIC achieves a 28-dB extinction ratio for 16-ary pulse position modulation.
