Abstract

The health of women and children is the cornerstone of health of the whole people, and the foundation and premise of sustainable development of mankind. Sufficient nutrition is of great important to the health of pregnant women and infants, and an effective way to prevent birth defects. Pregnancy is a very important period for the formation and development of fetal tissues and organs. Macro-nutrients and micro-nutrients can affect DNA stability by affecting methylation, and they are also the direct regulators of DNA stability and phenotypic adaptability. Nutrients act as substrates, transcription factors and modifying factors of gene expression, and the changes of fetal nutrition may significantly affect offspring’s structure and physiology. Studies show that malnutrition/undernutrition in pregnant women may cause fetal organ dysplasia or retardation, increase the incidence of pregnancy complications, even abortion, stillbirth or fetal malformation, and cause adverse effects on fetal long-term physical development and neurocognitive development. The common nutritional deficiencies in pregnant women include anemia, vitamin A, vitamin D, and iodine deficiency, the rate of vitamin D deficiency in pregnant women was 74.3% in China. In this paper, we first introduce the significance of vitamins during pregnancy, then we describe how to use genetic testing, nutrition blood test, and lifestyles to evaluate the requirement of vitamins during pregnancy, finally we give the personalized nutrition solution for pregnant women.
