Abstract

This paper presents the formulation of a coupled circuit model for the linear synchronous machine (LSM) and the derivation of the non-linear state variable equations which describe the electrical and mechanical behavior of the linear synchronous motor. A force angle, B, is defined for steady state and transient operation and techniques to control B by controlling the voltage magnitude are presented.
