Abstract

The University of Queensland’s Moreton Bay Research Station (MBRS) is one of Australia’s foremost marine research stations and is ideally situated on North Stradbroke Island, 10 kms off the coast of the Brisbane suburb of Cleveland. The island provides a fascinating range of habitats including coral reefs, mangrove forests and seagrass beds on which to focus educational and research programs. The close situation to a major Australian city provides unique opportunities to study the impact of city environmental pressures on coastal ecosystems.
