Abstract

Increasing global demand for energy and the consequential environmental implications continue to challenge utilities. The pressure to maintain operational integrity and modernize aging infrastructure under changing climate and consumption/production patterns persists, while disruption at the grid edge driven by an exponential pace of digital innovation makes the traditional energy provisioning model unsustainable. To meet smart grid power utilities goals for reliability, affordability and sustainability in these dynamic times, utilities must modernize the power grid to capitalize on new and emerging technologies.
