Abstract

Bone fracture treatment commonly involves drilling of bone to produce hole for the screw insertion to fixate the fracture devices and implants. The use of high speed cutting tool during orthopaedic surgical process causes increase in the bone temperature which can cause thermal ostenecrosis. Some research have been carried out in this field but there is no consensus on the most suitable drill geometry and optimum drilling parameters to be used. This paper reviews the process of bone drilling, discusses about their problem and suggests optimum drill design and drilling parameters to avoid bone necrosis.
