Abstract

User consent is legally and ethically required in any system that collects and uses personal user data; thus, it is required in internet of things (IoT) systems that depend on users’ personal data to provide their services. User consent is already considered an essential process in the healthcare sector. However, moving it to be suitable for IoT-based healthcare systems has many challenges, one of which is how to obtain users’ informed consent. Therefore, this paper briefly reviews the consent mechanism features in both healthcare and IoT. Then, according to the review, we propose the essential features for the consent mechanism in IoT-based healthcare systems that help to enhance users’ privacy awareness in order to obtain their informed consent.
