Trusted big data for official statistics: Study case: Statistics Indonesia (BPS)

Abstract

Data are lifeblood of decision-making and the raw material for accountability. Data becomes increasingly important and big. The source of data can be from many data sources such as administrative data agency, sosial network, pictures have been taken, internet of things. Official statistics in this case Statistics Indonesia as a data producers must be do initiative to improve the efficiency of the statistical production, and the ability to produce outputs that better meet user needs. Recently, new data source, Big Data, become target as new data technology. But, not all Big Data variety are suitable for the production of official statistics, but it has the potential to increase the cost efficiency of official statistics, provide new statistical products and services, and increase the frequency in the production of official statistics at little additional cost. This paper explain how Big Data as new data sources can result information that trusted for official statististics. Some treatment must be implemented to Big Data to resulting validity and trusted data.
