The Death of Steppe Eagles on the Road Section between Svetlograd and Arzgir of the Stavropol Kray, Russia

Abstract

This report reflects the deaths of Steppe Eagles ( Aquila nipalensis ) on the road section (145 km long) between Svetlograd and Arzgir used by us on a regular basis. Thus, the first steppe eagle was found hit by a car on the highway near the village of Kendzhe-Kulak on September 8, 2008, the second one – near the settlement of Krasny Manych of the Turkmensky district on September 12, 2008; two Steppe Eagles died under wheels of vehicles on the border of the Petrovsky and Turkmensky districts on September 14, 2018; another steppe eagle was knocked down by a car on the same road section on October 8, 2018. All eagles were immature birds.
