Abstract

Localization is defined as most fundamental step in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), generally used for estimating the position of sensor nodes. However, localization is performed by randomly distributing the sensor nodes over the environment and is indispensable for WSNs. Since the inception of this technology, localization schemes based on distance vector, DV-Hop has been widely employed in WSN compared to other algorithms. In this communication, a detailed survey on variants of DV-Hop is presented with their advantages and limitations. Further, open issues and challenges are briefly discussed.
