Abstract

A new fault location method based on zero sequence admittance measurement is presented in order to solve the fault location problem of single phase-to-earth fault in non-solidly earthed distribution network. The zero sequence admittance is calculated using measured zero sequence current and zero sequence voltage at sectionalized switch. The fault direction is determined by master station according to the angle of measured admittance, and then the faulty section is located by analyzing the fault direction results of different sectionalized switches. This method can be implemented in distribution automation (DA) system using the feeder terminal unit (FTU) as field measurement equipment, without requiring of additional equipment.
