Abstract
With use of SimRAD2.0, this paper carried out simulation of the raindrops final velocity and the complex refractive index, which are the two factors affecting the bright band. The result shows that drastic changes of complex refractive index due to falling and melting snow and ice particles, contributes to radar echo bloom below zero-centigrade isothermal and growing falling speed of raindrops leads to radar reflectivity factor recession there, which results in a considerable bend of vertical radar reflectivity factor at the melting layer.
