Abstract
In this paper, the authors investigate the effect of using 3 different macroscopic electrical conductivity equations with the relevant fitting parameters, mostly found and used in the literature for DC-XLPE, on the life of cable. The results show a similar pattern of the DC electric field distribution inside the insulation thickness obtained with the 3 electrical conductivity equations, although they provide a different degree of field inversion. Consequently, the electrothermal life of cable is affected by the conductivity equation used in this process.
