Abstract
Lung cancer is the most common among cancer-related deaths. In the Philippines, it is the top cause of cancer-related deaths among men and it is the third cause of cancer deaths among women. Plants have been used for cancer treatment throughout history. It is also known to be a major source of new drugs. Some of these promising natural products are still in various stages of clinical development. This study is part of the Philippine-California Advanced Research Institutes Institute for Health Improvement and Translation Medicine (PCARI-IHITM) 2017-2018 project, Glycoproteomics of Filipino Lung Cancer Cell Lines for Biomarker Discovery and Anti-Cancer Screening of Natural Products. Its goal is to identify biomarkers for different stages of lung cancers with the use of glycomic expression profiling, and to identify Philippine plant extracts that have potential preventive and therapeutic effects against lung cancer. It also aims to characterize, at molecule level, tumor tissues and blood samples from Filipino patients. The system developed in this study facilitates electronic record keeping system to allow secure and efficient storage, retrieval, visualization, and analysis of large data. This tool is expected to aid in biomarker discovery and anti-cancer screening of natural products for lung cancer drug development.
