Abstract

The Karachaganak field is a massive reef carbonate structure with relatively homogeneous rock properties distribution in the platform region. In many wells in the field, well test data interpretation at late time observations show closed boundary or flow in the system with multiple sealing faults, which often contradicts with the geological interpretation of the field. The tested wells are generally located in geologically homogeneous platform region and are unlikely to have any kind of boundary effects. Author using numerical simulation models shows that these late time data behavior can be explained by large fracture corridors, which display high contrast in permeability to surrounding matrix rock, thus leading to different boundary effects at late times of the well test data.
