Abstract

Aim: To reveal whether the places where the Gypsies live in Kırklareli Central district are spatially separated from the city center and at the same time segregated, and to make suggestions for the solution of this segregation. Method: Information document collection, mapping, observation, photographing and spatial analysis methods were used in this study, The examination stages of the spatial segregation were handled in three stages in the spatial analysis studies, 1st Stage: "Mapping Spatial segregatıon with Urban Macroform Change", 2nd Stage: "Spatial Features", 3rd Stage: "Physical Space Features". Analysis of "Disintegration in the Urban Imagination" analysis regarding the readability of the Gypsy’s region within the whole of Kırklareli, and the separation of the Gypsies and their region with the city center and other city dwellers, both imaginatively, spatially and socially, were evaluated. Results: In observational studies on the segregation areas of the mobility of the Gypsies and indigenous people, it is observed that the location, transportation, accessibility, security, equipment adequacy, living spaces and the building-building environment are all analyzed in the results, that the Gypsy’s region is a settlement separated from its socio-spatial structuring and urban integrity. It is seen that social segregation is also clearly felt. Conclusion: As a result, focused on solving the economic problems and problems of the Gypsies, Idea proposals were developed to overcome the spatial separation by increasing the common areas of use of the Gypsies and local people and by introducing socialization opportunities.
