Dermatophytosis

Abstract

A: The most common dermatophytes causing fungal infections in the skin, nails, and hair are from the Microsporum, Trichophyton, and Epidermophyton genera. Microsporum and Trichophyton species cause infections of the hair, Trichophyton and EpidermcF phyton species cause infections of the nail, and infections of the skin are caused by all three fungi genera (DeGreef & DeDoncker, 1993; Rosenthal, 1994; Shulman, MacKendrick, & Stamos, 1993).
