METHODOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF MAPPING THE ECOLOGICAL SITUATION IN UKRAINE

Abstract

A Ukrainian cartographer outlines a two-stage methodology for the compilation of maps of the state of the environment and public health in that country. The first stage involves compilation of a map of specific types of land use (economic activity) in the oblasts of Ukraine, followed by compilation of a map of particular types of natural and environmental hazards believed to be related to that activity. The final product is a composite map, produced by superimposition of the two maps, of economic and demographic pressure on the environment.
