Abstract

The author provides general guidelines for the installation and/or use of stationary battery systems. In particular, he focuses on cell selection, the charger, maintenance, and backup to the trip supply. The guidelines given complement existing IEEE standards IEEE 485-1983 (IEEE recommended practice for sizing large lead storage batteries) and ANSI/IEEE 450-1987 (maintenance of lead-acid batteries).<>
