Attributions and Lost and Promised Works

Abstract

When studying an author of the stature of Miguel de Cervantes, we relish the corpus of works that he created in his lifetime with which we are familiar, but within the Cervantine canon appear the titles of numerous works that have not survived to the twenty-first century. Likewise, works have been attributed to Cervantes that have gained the attention of academics to varying degrees. This chapter explores, genre by genre, works attributed to Cervantes, and works that he wrote, or promised to write, that either are lost or were never written at all.
