Abstract
This paper is concerned with approximations for electric field distributions along random rough surfaces (RRSs). RRSs are generated by the convolution method, and spectrum density function of rough surface is assumed to be Gaussian. Electric field distributions are numerically calculated by the DRTM which has been proposed by authors. Also, the estimation formula of radio communication distance is introduced. In the estimation method, we use two parameters, that is, ƒ¿ and ƒÀ. ƒ¿ is the correction value of field intensity and ƒÀ is the order of distance for propagation. These two parameters are strongly related to RRS's parameters, correlation length (cl) and deviation of surface's height (h). In this paper, we propose an approximate expressions for ƒ¿ and ƒÀ using cl and h. By the proposed approximations, we can easily obtain the field intensity above RRSs and omit the complicated calculation for electromagnetic field. Distance estimation of radio communication between transmitter and receiver located on RRS is shown as numerical examples by using the proposed approximations.
