Abstract
The US Army's Pulse Power Center's high-power-thyratron test facility was expanded to include the capability of evaluating switch performance at high repetition rates in either a pulse-forming network or a capacitor circuit. In addition to the existing 4 Omega network, an RLC circuit was installed. The facility was designed to test thyratrons at 55 A of average current for run times of 100 s. The system has operated reliably at 25 kV and at peak currents of 3 and 6 kA at repetition rates up to 5 kHz. A common resonant charge circuit was also installed for high-repetition-rate operation. Thyratrons from two manufacturers are being tested.<>
