COMPETÊNCIAS E LIMITAÇÕES PARA A EDUCAÇÃO A DISTÂNCIA EM UNIVERSIDADE COMUNITÁRIA NO MEIO OESTE CATARINENSE

Abstract

O presente artigo e um resultado preliminar de uma investigacao sobre a pratica da Educacao a Distância (EaD) na Universidade Alto Vale do Rio do Peixe (UNIARP), sediada em Cacador, SC. Considerando que a EaD sofreu grande expansao no Brasil nas ultimas decadas, cada vez mais instituicoes buscam nesse modelo de ensino e aprendizagem uma forma de melhor correspondencias das exigencias da sociedade atual, seja em termos de qualidade do ensino e em termos de equilibrio financeiro. O objetivo da investigacao consiste em buscar identificar as causas que levaram a uma baixa adesao dos estudantes nas atividades propostas nas disciplinas oferecidas a distância pela instituicao no primeiro semestre de 2013, levando a um percentual expressivo de reprovacoes. Metodologicamente, a pesquisa e constituida de revisao de literatura e aplicacao de questionarios estruturados aos 923 estudantes matriculados em disciplinas da modalidade EaD na UNIARP no primeiro semestre de 2013. Os resultados evidenciam que os participantes dispoem de recursos como computador e internet em seus domicilios e as competencias para a realizacao de atividades como acesso a internet, meio privilegiado para a construcao de ambientes de aprendizagem a distância. Contudo, os meios empregados pela instituicao na construcao de suas disciplinas, tais como foruns, sao pouco acessados pelos participantes da pesquisa. Portanto, concluiu-se que a baixa adesao dos alunos nas atividades na modalidade EaD e a consequente reprovacao de muitos e mais resultado da dificuldade da instituicao de criar um ambiente que se adeque as necessidades dos alunos do que destes em ter competencias para estudar na modalidade a distância. ABSTRACT This article is a preliminary result of an investigation about the practice of Distance Education in the Alto Vale do Rio do Peixe University (UNIARP), headquartered in Cacador, SC.Considering that Distance Education has suffered a great expansion in Brazil in the last decades, increasingly more institutions are seeking in this model of teaching and learning a way to better correspond to the demands of the current society, be it in terms of quality of teaching and in terms of financial equilibrium. The goal of the investigation consists in seeking to identify the causes which led to the low adhesion of the students to the activities proposed in the disciplines offered at a distance by the institution in the first semester of 2013 leading to an expressive percentage of failings. Methodologically, the research is constituted of a review of the literature and application of structured questionnaires to the 923 students enrolled in the disciplines in the Distance Education modality at the UNIARP. in the first semester of 2013. The results show that the participants have resources such as a computer and internet in their homes and the competencies to carry out the activities such as access to internet, a privileged environment for constructing a  distance learning environment. However, the means used by the institution to construct their disciplines, such as forums, were accessed very little by the participants of the research. Therefore, the conclusion is that the the low adhesion of the students to the activities in the Distance Learning modality and resulting failure of many is more a result of the difficulty of the institution to create an environment that can be adapted to the needs of the students than whether these students have the competencies for studying in a distance modality.
