Experiences with integrating operating systems

Abstract

Discusses the authors' industry experience in integrating operating system projects. Systems integration is broadly classified into module integration and version integration. Problems encountered in integrating individual modules based on multiple versions are discussed, together with techniques used to minimise or overcome them. Version integration occurs when new releases in the licensed software have to be integrated into manufacturers' proprietary versions. While version integration is more of an art than a science, certain measures undertaken at the module integration phase can reduce the time involved and problems encountered in version integration.<>
