Recent Trends on Real Time Simulation of FACTS: A Review

Abstract

Distributed and renewable source of energy in power network has made new difficulties and tasks regarding the voltage regulation, power quality, and energy efficient operation. To synchronize intelligent buildings and the emerging energy sources (with and without energy storage) with the utility, power electronic converters are extremely used. Smart dynamic controller based FACTS (Flexible ac Transmission System) are used for power filtering and stabilization equipment to recover power quality. This paper focuses on new topologies and Real Time Simulators (RTS) of FACTS devices, to establish steady state and transient stability of the power system.
