Abstract

The grid-connected solar panel is a distributed power generation device which is connected through an inverter that converts DC power from photovoltaic array to AC power. The voltage regulator to maintain the capacitor voltage at a certain reference level along with a current regulator are required to control the inverter. This paper mainly focuses on control of the inverter with an objective of extracting the maximum power from the solar panel. A fractional order proportional integral controller is proposed to control the inverter in this work. The performance of this controller is compared with the conventionally used PI and PID controllers on the basis of simulation result obtained using MATLAB Simulink.
